atlanta + amsterdam | markets

Weeks are flying by, and so here we are with already the 8th (!) week of the atlanta + amsterdam project! This week the theme is MARKETS, so Andrea and I both went into our cities Atlanta and Amsterdam to shoot something with our beloved Polaroid SX-70.

My polaroid, on the right, was shot this Monday morning, during the weekly antique and bric-a-brac market at Noordermarkt. This market, on the foot of the Noorderkerk, a church, is located in the beautiful Jordaan. Every Monday morning there are treasures to be found, and you're most likely to find them when you go early when all the tourists are still asleep. I walked around, meandering through piles of vintage clothes and fabrics, for something nice to shoot. And then I found this little scene, a stall filled to the brim with colourful lace, trims and buttons from past times, displayed in little tins and vintage suitcases. When I asked the lady if I could take a photo she agreed, but only if she wouldn't be part of the composition. So I promised...

On the left you can see Andrea's polaroid of the Sweet Auburn Curb Market. Make sure to head over to her beautiful blog to read her story about the polaroid she shot!

We're in a book! (and a little giveaway!)

The wonderful and brand new book of The Food Bandits that is!

Last year Suus and Johann of Dutch food blog The Food Bandits contacted us to ask if we would like to be featured in their weekly column Morning Rituals, with our favourite recipe for homemade cinnamon buns.

Later, when they were writing and photographing their first book they asked us to share another favourite recipe for their book, so we did. Last week they presented their book and we finally got to see the beautiful result... It's gorgeous, and we really love the fresh approach of the morning rituals combined with the recipes and bright photography. So you can imagine we're pretty proud to be in it with our little contribution!

And we have some good news; YOU can have this GOOD MORNING book as well, as we're doing a giveaway! The only thing you have to do to enter the giveaway is follow us on Facebook and type in the comments why you would love to have a copy of GOOD MORNING by The Food Bandits...

The book is in DUTCH so this giveaway is open to people living in The Netherlands and Belgium.

Good luck!

atlanta + amsterdam | art

Week number nine of the atlanta + amsterdam project; we have ART for you! Street art, from Atlanta and Amsterdam.

This piece, in the right photo, is my favourite street art in the city. It's made by artist duo The London Police, back in 2009, at one of the historical canal buildings at Prinsengracht. There's been a lot of controversy about it, and for a while the city council even wanted it to be removed. But fortunately it's still there, so people can enjoy the wonderful work they made. And take polaroids of it. :)

On the left you can see the colourful street art in Atlanta, in Andrea's polaroid. If you like you can head over to her blog Hulaseventy to read the story behind it. And if you're there, make sure to check out her other work as well. Andrea is such an inspiring person!

Love, Joyce
